Is no one interested in religion?

Just browsing through the posts on this website and realised that no one has made any posts on the topic of religion which seems strange to me on a website all about spirituality. Let's face the facts - religions arise because someone has a spiritual experience!!! Could it be that seems to get buried under centuries of doctrine and rituals and then the religion becomes more about doctrine, rules and stuff, going through the motions than about 'being' or feeling spiritual?

I find much spirituality within religions - mainly through my friendship with people of different religions who, when they talk about their religion and their lives, seem to me to be talking about being spiritual. I have a Sikh friend (Surinder) who clearly connects into a spiritual dimension through her Gudwara. My Christian friends do this through their prayer, worship and pastoral work. A Sufi cousin (Mark) through the way he brings up his children and through the chanting they do. My Muslim friend (Lubna) is deeply spiritual in the way she works and lives her life. So although I totally recognise and value 'New Age'/contemporary spirituality which isn't religion-based (though I have found that 'New Age' people often talk about Gods and Goddesses and even Christ consciousness), I do strongly believe that religious people of various kinds of religion are often (though no doubt, not always) deeply spiritual. Blessings to you all...and love.xxxxx

I totally agree, I think spirituality comes from within and for many that can be tied in with religions of all denominations.

I agree with you Anna. Religion and Spirituality can (and should) go hand and hand. The history of the Catholic church, for example, is coloured by the beautiful experiences of Christian mystics. Unbfortunately, sometimes religion can get too big for its own good, and spirituality takes a back seat to politics, power and dominion. I am very interested in religions, their origins, what they have in common and the inter-spirituality you can find in them.
