Spiritual women unite in action!

I'm very motivated to do something about the pressures that young women are under these days - especially from the stupid celebrity magazines. I hate them and would like to set fire to them publicly but...would I end up going to prison and would this be seen as a bit like the Nazis burning books? Has anyone got any ideas about how we could campaign against commercialism and its effect on young women? Are there any old feminists like me left out there with fire in their bellies?

Hi an old feminist here

Not sure about the fire in the belly though smiling
Sprituality is accelerating and these women will be touched by its flow, it's their choice to act upon it or not! I find that by just being 'you', that will have the greatest effect upon them. wink

And yes you would be arrested hehehehehehehe!

Peace and Blessings

Hi Gloria - I think both you and 'Openminded' are both right..being soulful/spiritual and still - is great but surely so is taking decisive action eg suffragettes who got votes for women!!!

I'm just back from a weekend conference on relational theology...lots of feminist theologians who are tackling nitty gritty issues like the way the church sees women and homosexuals. Without this kind of thinking and challenge of the 'received wisdom' we don't move forward.

Yes, I strongly agree with you here. I can't stand all this celebrity nonsense and it tends to lead young women in the wrong direction , thinking they have to be something they are not, leading to fake images etc.. There is nothing wrong with looking good, but I do feel lots of young women compare themselves to others, and individuality is such a fine thing !

It shouldn't be that way. We need proper role models to look up to really, women that have actually done something for the world, or stories of determination and great survival. Psychologies is quite a good read as it educates you at the same time. Also , I am in the process of reading a book at the moment called Divine Madness - Stories of creative struggle by Jeffrey A. Kottler - what a fantastic writer.

We get to see the truth behind the lives of the well known artists such as Judy Garland and Sylvia Plath, it's very refreshing to read because you are able to reflect on their problems and understand how creativity is used to overcome and release and that really their fame was more of a struggle than an actual show - yet they really made something of themselves after fighting!!!
